Study visit by Dr. Alfred Twardecki from the Polish Academy of Sciences

On August 25, the Japan Center for International Cooperation in Conservation welcomed Dr. Alfred Twardecki from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Twardecki specializes in epigraphy and history spanning the Greco-Roman to Byzantine periods and conducts fieldwork centered on Olbia, Ukraine. He visited our institute as part of an overview tour of cultural heritage preservation institutions in the Tokyo area prior to visiting at the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties—an institution with which he collaborates on projects such as supporting damaged cultural assets in Ukraine.
After an introduction to our center's international cooperation activities, Dr. Twardecki toured the Analytical Science Section, Biological Science Section, and Conservation Science Section within the Center for Conservation Science and Restoration Techniques, as well as the library. He showed us his great interest in our operations through his expertise and by comparing our work with practices at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
We exchanged valuable insights regarding research and collaborations.
Dr. Alfred Twardecki’s study visit to Japan was funded by the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) as part of its international cooperation programme.
He was accompanied on this visit by Dr. SHODA Shiya (Head of the International Cooperation Section) and Ms. WATANABE Yukina (Associate Fellow) from the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties.
