Hands-on Sessions on JPC 2024

On August 30, we successfully completed the first week of the Japanese Paper Conservation (JPC) course. During this course, 10 specialists from abroad were introduced to traditional Japanese conservation techniques using washi paper.

The first week began with an overview of Japan's heritage conservation framework, followed by lectures on the practical use of “glue” and “paper.” In the hands-on sessions, participants practiced cutting paper with a round knife and learned techniques such as infilling, lining, and orebuse reinforcement paper strips in the process of creating kansu handscrolls.

Starting on September 2, the second week will include a study tour to visit washi production sites and restoration workshops.
