Study Tour Group of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited the Institute

On June 5, students majoring in Building, Engineering, and Management (BEM) from the School of Professional Education and Executive Development at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Poly U SPEED) visited our institute on a study tour. Given their interest in contributing environmental issues through international cooperation in building engineering, we decided to go beyond a formal visit, and organized a joint session to present and discuss the latest efforts of both parties.
For the presentations from the Center, we selected projects related to immovable cultural properties that align with the BEM interest. Chief researcher MAEKAWA Yoshifumi discussed mural restoration and collaborative research in Turkey and Croatia. Associate fellow YAMADA Ayano presented on the digital documentation of medieval Islamic tombstones and its practical training in Bahrain. Researcher ASADA Natsumi gave a presentation on technical support for architectural conservation in Cambodia, Nepal, and Bhutan. From the Poly U SPEED side, senior lecturer Dr. Lam Wai Ming provided a comprehensive presentation on the theory and practice of "Heritage Revitalization," a key component of the BEM scheme. Following him, four students presented specific cases on the conservation and sustainable development of the historic urban environment in Hong Kong.
Although the session lasted only two hours in the short morning period, we believe we were able to share meaningful knowledge in the fields of construction management and cultural properties through the lens of international cooperation, areas that typically have limited interaction. The Center will continue to embrace these opportunities to expand mutual exchanges within the international community.
