Visit from Architectural Heritage Division, NRICH of Korea
On September 5, four researchers from the Architectural Heritage Division of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH), Korea, visited our institute. Their Japan visits aimed to gather information and examples of conservation approaches and practices for modern architecture, particularly focusing on brick masonry structures. Along with helping to select suitable domestic examples and coordinating their visit, the Center hosted an in-person meeting today. During this meeting, we provided an overview of Japan's organizational structure for heritage conservation, shared the Institute's research accomplishments in preserving modern architecture, and discussed efforts in international cooperation.
The Modern/Contemporary Architectural Heritage Division of the Agency for Cultural Affairs also participated in the meeting online, introducing Japan's architectural heritage conservation framework, along with the concepts and methods specifically suited for modern/contemporary architecture, including practical examples. The meeting was not just a one-sided presentation from the Japanese side, but also offered an opportunity to learn about Korea’s approach to modern architectural conservation and current trends in restoration projects. Although the meeting was brief, it facilitated meaningful two-way exchange between Japan and Korea in the field of architectural conservation.
