Visit of the Coordinator for International Cooperation from the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands

On October 9, Mr. Remco Vermeulen, Coordinator for International Cooperation at the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, visited our center. Mr. Vermeulen was in Japan to participate in collaborative activities with the National Museum of Ethnology (MINPAKU), focusing on exploring inclusive and collaborative engagement in cultural heritage. Accompanied by Ms. CHIU Chunni from MINPAKU, he visited our center to exchange ideas with us following the completion of the training program and symposium held in Osaka.
In the morning, we visited the National Museum of Western Art (NMWA) to observe preservation and renovation practices related to contemporary architectural heritage, with the kind assistance of Ms. FUKUDA Kyo from NMWA. In the afternoon, we held an in-house meeting, during which Mr. Vermeulen delivered a lecture on the reuse of Indonesia’s colonial heritage and the engagement of younger generations in heritage activities. In addition, our Director, Mr. TOMODA Masahiko, gave a presentation on the framework and activities of our center during the meeting. Although the meeting was brief, it provided a valuable opportunity for a fruitful discussion and meaningful exchange of information on innovative approaches to heritage studies and perspectives on international cooperation in heritage conservation.
