Damage Caused by Liquids at Temples and Shrines across the Country
Damages caused by oily liquid were reported at temples and shrines in Nara, Kyoto and Tokyo, including Shuri Castle in Okinawa, the main hall of Kinpusenji temple (National Treasure), the maidono stage of Shimogmo shrine (Important Cultural Property) and the Sange datsumon gate of Zōjōji temple (Important Cultural Property). In response, on April 3, the Agency for Cultural Affairs asked Prefectural Boards of Education to ensure security of cultural properties. Similar cases were reported two years ago in 2015.
