This restorationis presently underway.5. ConclusionAs has been explained throughout this paper, in thelast four decades since the Friuli Earthquake, anti-seismicmeasures for cultural property structures have been studiedwhile repeatedly experiencing damage due to earthquakes. This is similar to how Japan has looked into preventivemeasures for approximately twenty years since the GreatHanshin Awaji Earthquake. While Japan has acquiredexperience on wood-frame cultural property structures, Italyhas gained experience in preventive measures for masonrycultural property structures. Developments have been madein seismic analysis and seismic reinforcement, monitoringmethods, as well as approaches for emergency treatmentin reinforcement that serve as references for issues whichJapan has just started to seriously tackle, of approachesin anti-seismic measures for masonry cultural propertystructures from the Modern era.The recent experiences in Italy where modernreinforcement methods resulted in further damage or wherethe groups of historic structures were severely hit are issueswhich Japan has rarely faced and thus, discussions andhandling of problems in Italy based on experience includeinteresting matters. Also, the author would like to note thatamong the numerous issues raised, the fact that in Italyreinforcement for increased performance is prioritizedin measures taken for most cultural property structuresdiffers greatly from Japan in that here, in most recent cases, reinforcement is introduced with a focus on meeting thepresent standards.AcknowledgmentI would like to express my gratitude to Professor ClaudioModena of Padova University for providing the author withessential information and advice for completing this writing.figure 6 Reinforcement plan figure 7 Detail of reinforcementphoto 9 Spanish Fortress before the L'Aquila Earthquake photo 10 Spanish Fortress after the L'Aquila Earthquake43
