Restoration planningThis is a building that was commissioned to Josiah Conder,Professor of the Architecture Department at ImperialCollege of Engineering, by the Shimazu Family in 1906(Meiji 39) and completed in 1915 (Taisho 4). In later years,under social influences including the Great Depression orthe Second World War, it was sold to the Bank of Japan. Inthe post-war period, the building was used by the GeneralHeadquarters as a military officer’s residence until 1954.After the end of occupation, the present property owner ofSeisen University purchased the land and structure from theBank of Japan in 1961 for continued use as an educationalfacility.
