International Course on Conservation of Japanese Textile
The Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties (TNRICP) is pleased to announce the course on the conservation and restoration of Japanese textile to be held in Taipei, Taiwan in August 2017. The course consists of two workshops, Basic and Advanced and will be conducted by Japanese specialists in Japanese with English translation at the Research Center for Conservation of Cultural Relics, National Taiwan Normal University.

Basic Workshop“ Cultural Properties of Textile in Japan”
Duration: 9th - 11th August 2017
Aimed for conservators, restorers, curators, researchers, and students of Asian art and/or conservation scientists.
The aim of the Basic Workshop is to introduce Japanese textiles through lectures, demonstrations, and practical workshops conducted by Japanese specialists over the duration of three days. The workshop will focus on materials, techniques, structures, as well as national system for protection of the cultural properties in Japan. The number of participants is limited to 12. Applicants should submit their application form by April 21th. Notification of the selection will be sent via e-mail by May 12th.
Advanced Workshop “ Conservation of Japanese Textile”
Duration: 14th – 18th August 2017
Aimed for conservators, restorers and curators of textile
The Advanced Workshop is designed for conservators, restorers and curators who already have an advanced knowledge of restoration and conservation of textile. The course will introduce display, condition assessment and preventive conservation and restoration techniques of Japanese textiles through practical work, demonstrations and lectures conducted by Japanese specialists for five days. Applicants are required to participate in the Basic Workshop. The number of participants is limited to 6. Applicants should submit their application form by April 21th. Notification of the selection will be sent via e-mail by May 12th.
*Travel and accommodation are the participant’s responsibility.
*TNRICP does not have any grants. Participants have to seek funding for themselves.
*Participants must prepare all official documents required to enter and stay in Taiwan such as visa by themselves.
*Certificate(s) will not be issued in the case of delayed arrival at and early leaving from the workshop(s).
