 Collection of and Study on the Public System and its Application for Protection of Cultural Heritage in European Countries: UK |
In fiscal year 2002, the Center conducted investigation on public system for protecting cultural property on July 25-August 4 in England and Scotland. United Kingdom, as well as Germany, has no single law covering movable and immovable cultural property. This time it investigated about the UK's advanced protection system for immovable cultural property including the basic framework, problems and future policy of the government.
The study team of the Center interviewed with the staff of English Heritage and Historic Scotland. It also on-site investigation at several archaeological sites, historic districts, industrial heritage and historic buildings like Stonehenge, Ironbridge, Edinburgh, etc.
The Center collected legislative texts and public system on protection of cultural property. It invited three specialists of counterpart organizations of the research on March 3-11, 2003 to exchange opinions on sites of cultural property protection in Japan, and organize a conference on the theme of current situation of cultural property in England and Scotland. |
