Collection of and Study on the Public System and its Application for Protection of Cultural Heritage in European Countries: France

The Center joined investigation by the research group of Dr. MIYAKE Riichi, Keio University on the public system for protection of cultural property in France.
The investigation was mainly about the events on the day of cultural property and interviews with the specialists who works for governmental bodies for protection of cultural property.

In France, special exhibition of listed buildings that are usually closed to the public on the day of cultural property. Besides, entrance fee of the museums and art galleries are free on that day. The group members visited Chocolatier Menier. The buildings are listed as national monument and also utilized as the headquarter office of Nestle France, that are famous for a good example of utilization of historic buildings. On the day of cultural property, Nestle joined the event to provide drink and food to visitors for free.

The members interviewed with the staff at the Ministry of Culture and Communication, DRAC Île-de-France and Ministère de l'Équipement and got information about the information system and inventories of cultural property. In January 2004, the Center did fieldwork in France on the practice of public system in line with the results of this investigation.
