Database on Laws for Protection of Cultural Property |
|
Understanding the public system
for protecting cultural property in the counterpart country is inevitable for the implementation of international cooperative projects on the protection
of cultural property. True we must know how they operate (or do not operate) the system, but the legislative instruments are essential information on the protection system of cultural property in each country. UNESCO and some
international organizations collect the legislative information, but they are mainly about the illicit
traffic of movable cultural property. Besides, in Japan there is no
collection of foreign cultural-property-protection legislation's translated
in Japanese.
In these circumstances, our Center organized the Workshop for Database
on Laws concerning Protecting Cultural Property. The workshop collects the legislative texts such as laws, regulations or orders regarding the protection of cultural property and translates the texts into Japanese.
Researchers who study law or cultural property preservation review the
translated texts.
The workshop not only uploads the texts on our website for public use but also publishes the translation with the original texts. Up to March 2010, 9 of them has published including the English translation of the Japanese Law for the Protection of Cultural Property (translated by the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo). |
