It is necessary to understand the public system
for protectning cultural property in the counterpart country for conducting international cooperative projects for protection
of cultural property. Of course
we must know how they operate (or do not operate) the system, even so,
the articles are the most essential information for us. UNESCO and some
international organizations collect the articles concerning illicit
traffic of movable cultural property, but as for immovable cultural
property, there are scarce database on it. Plus, in Japan there is no
collection of foreign cultural-property-protection legislations translated
in Japanese.
In consideration of such situation, we organized the Workshop for Database
on Laws concerning Protecting Cultural Property. The representative
of the Workshop is Futagami Yoko, one of the staff of our Center. The Workshop
is funded by Grant-in-Aid from the Japan Society for the Promotion of
Science and conduct the project for making database and Japanese translation
of laws for protection of cultural property.
Researchers who study law or cultural property preservaton revise the
Translated texts so that the texts will be more precise ones.
Until fiscal year 2004, the Workshop has translated about 240 piece of laws of over 50
countries. |
