AN ACT TO MAKE PROVISIONS AS ARE CONSEQUENTIAL TO THE SUPPRESSION OF THE POST OF "DIRECTOR OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS" AND THE DISCHARGE OF HIS FUNCTIONS BY THE SECRETARY.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :

1. This Act may be cited as the Director of Cultural Affairs (Special Provisions) Act, No. 46 of 1983, and shall be deemed, for all purposes, to have come into operation on the first day of April, 1981 (hereinafter referred to as the "appointed date").

-Short title and date of operation.

2. With effect from the appointed date wherever, in any other written law or in any notice, permit, communication, form or other document issued, made, required or authorized by or under any such written law, the expression "Director of Cultural Affairs" occurs, there shall be substituted therefor the expression "Secretary to the Ministry of the Minister in charge of the subject of Cultural Affairs, or his representative", and accordingly wherever in any such written law the abbreviation "Director" is used to denote the Director of Cultural Affairs such abbreviation shall be read and construed as a reference to such Secretary or his representative.

-Amendment of other written laws.

3. Every contract, agreement or other instrument or document whatsoever made, issued or executed prior to the appointed date, by or in favour of the Director of Cultural Affairs shall be deemed on and after that date to be and to have been made, issued or executed by or in favour of the Secretary to the Ministry of the Minister in charge of the subject of Cultural Affairs.
