PREFACE

 It is our great pleasure to inform you of  the 28th International Symposium on the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property to be held in Tokyo from  December 1st to 3rd by National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo.

 The theme for this year  will be "Non-destructive Examination of Cultural Objects Recent Advances in X-ray Analysis." Recent development of X-ray instruments, including portable analyzer, gives us new scientific approaches to historical and art historical study.

 In the coming Symposium, non-destructive examination by using various analytical methods and in-situ analysis by portable instruments will be presented and discussed.
