「近代の文化遺産の保存理念と修復理念」英語版

38what of the system could be preserved as anexample of a cultural heritage property. The carscould possibly be one, but they are movable, not immovable properties. Is there anythingthat could be preserved at their original sites? How about elevated bridges? For these trainsto run at full speed, the infrastructure of civilengineering work requires high precision inconstruction and must be well maintained. However, the bridge beams are expendableitems and are replaced. We went through theprocess of selecting what could be considered tobe the components of a structure and decidedthat with bridges, the abutment would remainand of the various facilities, tunnels would lastfor a long time. For these reasons, we wereable to include the Tokaido Bullet Train as anominee. Regarding architectural heritage, thefollowing are some of the nominees included(Not all are listed.) ① Hiroshima PeaceMemorial Museum and Hiroshima PeaceMemorial Park, ② Ueno Park and culturalfacilities, ③ Yoyogi National Gymnasium, ④Meiji Jingu Shrine Inner and Outer Precincts, and ⑤ residences and gardens around NanzenjiTemple. Japan ICOMOS intended toofficially list the nominees by March 2016,but it has been postponed for completion bythe end of 2018, due to delay in working andapplication procedures.(During the editingprocess of the English version of this report,on December 8, 2017, the Japan ICOMOSNational Committee announced and released tothe press a list of twenty properties representingJapan's 20th century cultural heritage andtechnological advancement. For further details, please refer to the website of Japan ICOMOS.http://www.japan-icomos.org/index.html)2) Tateyama Sabo FacilitiesAmong industrial civil engineering works, eightnominees were listed starting with TateyamaSabo Facilities centered on Shiraiwa Sabo Dam.“Sabo” or protection against sediment disasterhas now become an international jargon.3) Electric Power Plants along the KurobegawaRiver SystemAlong the Kurobe-gawa River, there are suchstructures as Kurobe Dam (also called KuroyonDam), known as Japan’s highest dam,as well as Koyadaira Dam, Kurobe SecondElectric Power Plant, and Meguro-bashi Bridgedesigned by Bunzo Yamaguchi. Because the siteis located in a national park, an undergroundelectric power plant was also constructed.4) Seto Ohashi BridgeI personally wanted to include this bridgetogether with other bridges over Seto InlandSea (Setonaikai) as a group, but it was decidedto narrow the topic down to one suspensionbridge, finally choosing Seto Ohashi Bridge.Akashi Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge, which is slenderand to me is more beautiful as a structure, wasanother candidate, but Seto Ohashi Bridgeinvolved higher technology in construction. This bridge is a double-decker, carrying aroad for automobiles as well as a railroad. Theweight of the railroad system as well as thebraking load is larger than that of a road forautomobiles. In a television program from thetime when this bridge was just completed, theextent of deflection of the girder as a trainpassed over the structure was shown on thescreen. Having been filmed from one end ofthe bridge with a zoom lens, the train was inview as it approached from Shikoku, but whenit reached the center of the bridge, the girder
