概要

「近代の文化遺産の保存理念と修復理念」英語版

32Heritage List for various reasons, structuresfrom Japan’s colonization era are preservedand utilized under very preferable conditions. In Kaohsiung, trips on sightseeing ships areavailable for a tour around the bay. Regarding train systems, Kaohsiung BayStation with its switchyard, related facilitiesincluding warehouses, and piers of the harborrailroad system have been preserved after therailroad ceased operation in 2008. Photo 7 isfrom the TICCIH conference in Taiwan. Itis not only structures that have been saved. Inthe former train station, an array of fixturesand items formerly used by the station staffincluding tickets, ticket punch, journals, and account books remain, recreating theatmosphere of a working train station. Thereis a platform in the switchyard equipped withtrain tracks, and here, locomotives and cars areexhibited. Paths have been boarded for visitorsto walk on, while the train tracks are kept intact.Where the tracks have been removed, seasonalflowers are planted along a line in the directionin which the rails originally extended. Themeaning of the place has been introduced intothe design. Benches were made from railwaytrolleys placed on the tracks. (Because therewere people sitting on these benches, I was notable to check whether they could be movedalong the tracks.) This is an example from Taipei of alocomotive factory where development planshave been created for recently. New roads wereplanned to reflect the route of old railroadtracks to indicate the former locations offactories and buildings at the new site. It isunclear as to what the new buildings willlook like, but roadways and plotting withinthe premises will reflect the history of theplace. Major buildings are to be preservedtogether with memories of the land to presenta continuity of history. Various uses have been applied to the groupof warehouses in Kaohsiung Bay as well. Froma distance, I was at first surprised to see theexterior walls painted in psychedelic colors. Thewalls were not actually painted, but coveredwith plastic sheets printed with pictures andhung on walls with pushpins (Photo 8). I foundthis to be an effective method of changing thespatial atmosphere dynamically. Places whererestoration could not be finished in time weretemporarily repaired, so that the building couldbe put to use flexibly. Inside the warehouse is one large space thatcan be converted in many ways to souvenirshops, restaurants, spaces for events, film theaters, seminar rooms, and information centers.
