概要

「近代の文化遺産の保存理念と修復理念」英語版

29most beautiful coal mine in the world” (Photo1). The symbolic shaft has been incorporatedinto the logo mark of the facilities. There is along escalator leading to the highest floor ofthe Ruhr museum, which is the main exhibitionbuilding of the entire site. This may have beeninstalled for the convenience of visitors, but isnot well received among specialists. Photo 2 is a view of the premises wherepaths have been entirely paved to enable usein events. The train tracks have been left intactand incorporated into the landscaping to tella story of the former transportation systemwithin the site. It was in 2014 that I visitedthe complex and some areas that had onlybeen partially maintained had trees and weedsovergrowing. It appears that the site is toolarge for regular maintenance to cover all areas. On the highest floor of the former coke plant,a commemorative centennial exhibition wasbeing held. There was a poster announcing anexhibition to be held in 2015 on the occasion ofthe 25th anniversary of Germany’s unification. The approach to the coke plant is interesting, evoking interest. Visitors ride on the elevatedinclined railway which once carried coal and arebrought to the highest level of the coke plant,a few hundred meters away, crossing over thepremises and roads. A transportation systemthat once carried coal now carries people. Itwas an interesting experience, although the carwas covered on all sides and views of the sitecould not be seen. From the highest stage ofthe coke plant, the entire site could be viewedfrom above. Spaces for exhibition is plannedso that the visitors travel from the highest leveldownwards stopping at each floor. The Ferris wheel is to be demolished aftertwenty-five years from inscription on theWorld Heritage List (Photo 3). A temporaryswimming pool had been built, attracting manychildren in the summertime to the Zollverein;adults end up coming with these children. These are some examples of their continuouseffort to draw in more visitors to the site evenafter World Heritage listing. Although the exhibition itself is interesting,I would like to focus on how the heritageproperty is made use of in exhibits and alsoas spaces for exhibition. Photos 4 and 5 areof the interior and exterior of the coal storage. Here, visitors can experience going down tothe narrowing tip of the quadrangular pyramidstorage.
