「近代の文化遺産の保存理念と修復理念」英語版

21Photo 20 Problems of concrete conservation onHashima Islandwhich color should be used for new windowglass. Finally, I come back again to Japan. In 2015the Sites of Japans Meiji Industrial Revolutionwere designated as World Heritage. I couldvisit most of the sites and was very happy to doso. Of course this example - Miike coal mine- is from my point of view relatively easy toconserve. I have worked now on 11 World HeritageSites of industry and know many of these sitesvery well. But if I look at Hashima Island, which I could visit two times, I must admit thismight be the greatest challenge ever for theIndustrial World Heritage. It’s 100% authentic in world heritage phrases, but how to keep its integrity? If it would beonly of steel construction I would be morehopeful. But it’s more or less 100% concreteand I think conservation will be very difficult. Iwish my Japanese colleagues good luck for thischallenge and hope that they will be successfulin this tremendous conservation effort (Photo20).
