「近代の文化遺産の保存理念と修復理念」英語版

18of the important places of the Route for theIndustrial Culture (Photo 14).Zollverein mine in Essen in the western part ofthe Ruhr Are was the most modern and largestblack coal mine in the world when it was builtin 1926 (Photo 15). It had the most moderntechniques in coal sorting, washing, and transferand also the most advanced architecture inmodern style. These two facts were the reasonswhy it was designated World Heritage Site in2001. It is important to make these sites public, getpublic awareness and win political acceptance togenerate money for conservation. I believe wewere quite successful and I will give an example. The reunification of West and East Germanyhappened in 1990, and 2015 marks the 25thanniversary of this event which changed partsof the world. The popular german newspaper"Bild" made a special edition distributed freeto each household with the headline "HappyBirthday Germany". On the cover it showedpictures of 25 places you should have seen inour country, and besides Neuschwanstein onewas the Zollverein mine! For discussion of conser vation andrestoration policies I will now go on to onetype of building which is quite often preservedat blast furnaces and mining plants. This is whatI would call the great hall or the large machinebuilding, either used for housing the machinesthemselves or to build or repair machines. Inthe Ruhr Area alone there are about 10 of thesevery large halls preserved which are now usedfor different purposes, either exhibition, concerthall, spaces for museum exhibition or rented forspecial events, like presentation of products. They are so large that for example some carmanufacturing companies use these halls forsecret presentation and running of new models, because it is a covered space and you cannot seethe new model from outside. One example in Bochum, also in Ruhr Area iscalled the Centenary Hall (Photo 16). It wasbuilt for an exhibition in Paris to celebrate thecentenary of the Krupp Company. After theexhibition it was dismantled, brought to thisplace and reerected to use it as a workshop.Third use is now concert hall, and it issupplemented by new buildings which containthe infrastructures for this new use. All these halls have similar constructions:steel framing, pillars and roof girders composedof riveted steel shapes. This construction typewas very common and spread all over industrialsites not only in Germany, but for examplePhoto 15 Zollverein mine Photo 16 The Centenary Hall in Bochum
