Our collectionsmanager worked closely with a CCI scientistto design a case that is airtight, glazed withanti-reflective glass, and machined from asingle anodized aluminum block. It is alsofitted to provide an anoxic environment inthe future 18 .The aluminum block was milled toprovide cavities for a dessicant (silica gel), anatmospheric pollutant scavenger (charcoalcloth), and a bellow (heat-sealed marvelseal) to regulate small changes in air pressureinside the airtight case (Photos 33a,b).The document is mounted on an anodizedmetal plate with a specially designed passivesystem of mylar tabs that are secured withmagnets (Photos 34a,b). The UV filteranti-reflective glazing is incorporated intoa lid that is secured with screws and sealed80
